In 2012 I received a request to conduct a study for an EU-financed research project in mobile health called Harnessing mobiles to adress intercultural problems in healthcare. The project is a partnership between the Linnaeus University (Sweden), Folk high school Augsburg (Germany) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.

I was told that my background as an interaction designer would be very helpful for exploring the conditions for immigrants in the Swedish healthcare system.

Project objectives:
"In this project it is intended to explore the potential of mobile devices and related (social networking) technologies and services in addressing intercultural communication problems of migrant families in the area of health care, in particular in the field of pediatrics. How can mobile technologies support the learning of parents and carers from migration backgrounds about helping chronically ill children in the accomplishment of everyday life and education-related tasks in order to preventing isolation during extended periods in hospital?"

PERSONA

Refugee Persona

Persona was produced from data collected from a field study on Migration Board in Högsby, Sweden, and I interviewed two officials with more than 20 years work experience at Migration Board. I visited an asylum camp, temporary apartments for asylum seekers, learnt about the MUS process, and met refugees in real living conditions in Sweden. I learnt tons and built the persona on all these experiences and knowledge.

PERSONA

Immigrant with sick child
